Pyramid trailbreaking

With Dwight S. Broke trail to 10,600' or so on the west slopes route on Pyramid. Followed an existing snowshoe track from camp initially but eventually diverged from it in an open area. Pretty rotten snow up the lower west slopes until the gully formed up, where at least the lower part of the gully had slid, so the snow was nice and firm.

I'm guessing 2 hours roundtrip from camp?

Sarah, Dominic, and Kiefer broke trail toward North Maroon but encountered rotten snow and tough going. Thus, we opted for Pyramid the next day.

Hike to Crater Lake

Hiked the Maroon Creek Road from the T Lazy 7 Ranch to Maroon Lake. Then on snowshoes, on an existing track, to a camp at Crater Lake.

With Dwight S, Sarah and Dominic M, and Kiefer T (from Maroon Lake to Crater Lake).

Belford, Oxford

With Jeff V (to Belford), Tony K, Jeff K (from treeline down to the trailhead). Started at 8:16 am. From the Missouri Gulch TH, trail up to treeline, lost the trail for a bit until over to Belford's northwest ridge, then on or near the trail to the summit, over to Oxford, back over to Belford, down the trail. Strong winds. Probably gusting close to 60 in the saddle between Belford and Oxford. But quite warm.

Huron

With Dwight S. Started at 7:44 am. From Winfield, hiked the road on an existing snowshoe track to the standard trailhead; then followed a snowshoe track that started on the trail, but eventually diverged, up to treeline (put snowshoes on at maybe 11,200'); across the flats at 12,300'; then up the north/northwest slopes near and occasionally on the trail to the summit. Stashed the snowshoes at around 13,200'. Did not use the snowshoes at all on the descent.

Green (descent PR)

From Baseline at about 6th St, up to the Baseline trail, Amph, Saddle Rock, Greenman, Green; down Greenman, Saddle Rock, Amph, Gregory TH; then walked the road back to my car.

Started at 3:48 pm. Didn't get up Green on Christmas Day, so the streak ended at 22 days. Almost didn't get this one in, but I'm glad I did.

Quite windy today. Unfortunately, there was some drifting, most notably above the Saddle Rock/Greenman junction. Fortunately, there were a couple of snowshoers descending as I went up.

Pretty much was all out on the descent. Conditions weren't ideal with the drifting, as I was spinning my wheels in a few places and thrown off balance at times with the unsure footing. I definitely felt like that cost me a little time. The light was getting pretty dim near the bottom as well, but I don't think that really slowed me down much, if at all. Very happy with this descent.

15:45 descent, 42 seconds faster than on 12/21/2011.
