From Gregory TH, Amph, Saddle Rock, Greenman, Green; down the same.
Started at 11:01 am. A bit of fresh snow overnight. Was in the teens at the start, but I climbed above the clouds, and the summit was sunny and warm with no wind. Took it pretty easy on the ascent, hiking most of it. Was pushing the descent a bit until I ran into Rex H and Caroline just above the Greenman/Saddle Rock junction. Stopped to chat with them for several minutes.
Right after that, a link came undone on one of my Microspikes. I stopped to try to fix it, to no avail, so I removed it and ran with one Microspike. Didn't care for that, so stopped again and tried to fix it again, again to no avail, so just put it back on. Ran a bit further and then removed it as I felt like I might break it even worse. So, ended up descending most of Saddle Rock and Amph with one Microspike.
Ran into Charlie N back at the trailhead. Nice to chat with him for a bit.

Green
From Gregory TH, Amph, Saddle Rock, Greenman, Green; down the same.
Started at 6:44 am. Had planned to meet Jeff V, but he wasn't feeling well, so backed out. I'd mentioned it to Mark O, who was a "maybe" and said he might start early. As I pulled into the Gregory lot, I saw Mark at his car, but I had to drive down the road to park. When I got back to the lot, Mark was gone. Ugh, after Jeff had bailed, I was looking forward to a more casual ascent, but now I had to chase down Mark.
I put in a pretty hard effort until I caught him just above the talus section on Greenman. Was nice to catch my breath and then chat for the rest of the ascent and the descent. Ran into Sheri and Kirsten as they descended Greenman.

Green (descent PR)
From Gregory TH, Amph, Saddle Rock, Greenman, Green; down the same.
Started at 6:43 am. Felt like I worked pretty hard on the ascent, but not a great time to show for it.
I was really itching to put in a hard effort on the descent, though. Conditions were about as good as they get. Having been off the mountain for such a long time, though, I didn't think I'd have a PR in my legs.
I took things somewhat cautiously for the first minute or so, as I didn't want to step off the narrow track on the upper switchbacks. From then on, it was all out. Had a great run with hardly any missteps, and I probably made this one hurt a bit more than my previous PR.
15:37 descent, 8 seconds faster than on 12/26/2011.

Green
From Gregory TH, Amph, Saddle Rock, Greenman, Green; down the same.
Started at 6:41 am. Pushed pretty hard on the descent, but conditions weren't quite ideal, and I was pretty sloppy. Don't think the legs were quite there today. I stepped off the trail (post-holed) numerous times and fell into deep powder once.
Still, 17:18 isn't so bad, I guess. And that was in my pants! Perhaps more psychological than anything, but I find that I'm usually faster (up or down) in shorts.

Green
From Gregory TH, Amph, Saddle Rock, Greenman, Green; down the same.
Started at 6:51 am. A few inches of new snow overnight, but I think 4 folks had gone up before me. Caught up to Laurent (tall French guy) and friend on the log steps on Greenman. Went by, but on the final couple of switchbacks, Laurent was gaining on me. I pushed hard to stay ahead of him, as I didn't want to step aside after just passing him. He made me hurt, though. Chatted with them briefly on the summit. Put in an OK effort on the descent.

Green
From the dirt pullout on Baseline, road up to Gregory TH, Amph, Saddle Rock, Greenman, Green; down the same.
Started at 4:32 pm. After Friday's big storm, Jeff V wanted to get up and pack the trails with snowshoes. Turns out plenty of other folks had been up the mountain on snowshoes earlier in the day, so they weren't really necessary. But this was the first time I'd ever used snowshoes on Green, so I wore them all the way up and down. They probably helped a little with traction, actually.
Worked pretty hard on the ascent until the talus section. I had a bit of a deadline, and I didn't want Jeff to catch me too quickly as I figured I'd slow him down since I hadn't been up Green in over 5 weeks (!). At the talus section, I ran into a skier descending. Stopped to chat and discovered it was Austin Porzak, who has skied many of the 14ers. Jeff caught up as we were chatting. As Jeff and I continued up, I think I slowed down as we chatted non-stop. Jogging down with the snowshoes was actually kind of fun, although it went pretty slow as we descended in the dark.
