From Gregory TH, Amph, Saddle Rock, Greenman, Green; down the same.
Started at 6:34 am. Had no intention of going so hard on the descent. But I started down, immediately felt great, and just let loose. Despite being sketched out on the ice yesterday with my old Microspikes, conditions weren't a factor today, as the newer Microspikes worked great. Legs felt great all the way down. Just a super-fun descent!
16:27 descent, 26 seconds faster than on 12/17/2011.
GZ, to answer your question from the other day, Charlie Nuttelman descended in 16:39 on 6/10/2003. That was with the old Saddle Rock/Greenman trail alignment, though, which descended some 50-100 vertical feet more than the current trails. His time was to the Amphitheater/Baseline trail junction, though, whereas I'm stopping my watch when I hit the pavement at the Gregory trailhead.
0:00 - Gregory TH
9:18 - Amph/Saddle Rock
25:50 - Saddle Rock/Greenman
45:12 - Green summit
49:35 - started down

Wait - I am a bit confuzzled. So he stopped his watch just above the bridge then? In any case, I am thinking - if I am reading this right - your time is faster and superior. Right?
ReplyDeleteThe only question could be if he did it in dry conditions.
ReplyDeleteI guess my statement about the old Saddle Rock/Greenman trail alignment was confusing. The old junction of these trails used to be lower than the current junction (sort of south/southwest? of the current junction). So, for Charlie's descent, he had to drop a bit further to the old junction, then climb back up to the current junction before descending again.
ReplyDeleteIn my mind, Charlie's time is much more impressive than mine since that was certainly with dry conditions. Dry conditions are much tougher than the smoothed out track I've had up there this month. Plus the little bit of extra climbing he had to do on the descent.
Makes sense, although I think that little up that was there was not a huge deal.
ReplyDeleteDry conditions versus a snow pack ... bigger deal.
I think the difference between the old trail and the newer re-route is negligible, maybe just a few seconds at most going up or down. The old way might have a bit more up/down, but also might be just a touch shorter.
