Green

From Gregory TH, Amph, Saddle Rock, Greenman, Green; down West Ridge, Green-Bear, Bear Canyon, Mesa, Bluebell-Baird, Gregory TH.

Started at 6:33 am. Didn't feel like pushing hard enough to actually run any of the ascent, so it was mostly hiking. Guess I worked harder near the top than yesterday, though. Wanted more time/distance, so headed down Bear. Still lots of snow on Green-Bear, and the track on the lower half was off the normal trail and a bit of a bushwhack. Pulled the Microspikes off near the saddle at the head of the canyon, thinking the snow would be soft in the canyon. It wasn't. Slipped all over for several minutes, going down once, before finally pulling them back on until I crossed Bear Creek on the Mesa Trail.

Green, Flagstaff

From Gregory TH, Amph, Saddle Rock, Greenman, Green; down West Ridge, Ranger, Realization Point TH, Ute, off trail to Flagstaff summit; Flagstaff, Crown Rock, Gregory.

Started at 6:20 am. Not much pep on this run. Stomach started feeling crampy around 6:30 Sunday evening. A few hours later, I liberated several quarts of fluid from my digestive system. Felt much better thereafter, although I was about six pounds light. So...hoping my lack of energy on this run was left over from Sunday's dehydration.

Roger L was on the summit when I arrived, so we chatted for a bit.

Ninemile Mountain

Hiked up Ninemile with the family. Given the energy Mia has displayed recently, I expected her to zoom quickly to the summit, but she had to be motivated by snacks every few minutes. She did a great job, though, especially given the wet, snowy trails. On the descent, she'd take off sprinting to get her next snack. I was impressed with how well she can run when she wants to. Times from memory: started around 12:26 pm, topped out around 1:16 pm, spent about a half hour at the top and the view point, then got back down around 2:10 pm.

Snow Mountain Ranch run

From Aspenbrook Lodge at Snow Mountain Ranch, ran the main road (53) out to Hwy 40. Turned and ran back, then turned right at the admin building junction. At the Library building, found the snowshoe trail "Peter's" and ran that lollipop. Back to the road, continued west toward the cabin area, then south and then east past the stables back to Aspenbrook.

Started at 6:38 am.

Ninemile Mountain

Started at 1:18 pm. Up at Snow Mountain Ranch for a busy weekend of fun activities. Got out while Lori took the girls on a sleigh ride. Jogged up to the trailhead, carrying a pack with snowshoes. Put the snowshoes on not far up the trail (not wanting to start postholing in my running shoes), then took them back off a few minutes later. Didn't ever need them. Jogged back down and got back to the stables just as the sleigh ride was finishing up.

Green, Flagstaff

From Gregory TH, Amph, Saddle Rock, Greenman, Green; down West Ridge, Ranger, Realization Point TH, Ute, off trail to Flagstaff summit; Flagstaff, Crown Rock, Gregory.

Started at 6:29 am. Was pretty dark starting without a headlamp, and I didn't feel like going hard, so I went easy for the most part. Walked everything to Saddle Rock/Greenman. Jogged from there to the spring, through the talus switchbacks (still snow-covered, of course), and a bit beyond, and then reverted to walking. Then ran from above the wooden steps to the summit.

Took it easy coming down Ranger. Ran up Ute until I left the trail. Jogged easy down Flagstaff.

Started at 6:22 am. Less than an inch of wet snow overnight and lots of rain yesterday afternoon. Temps were right around freezing overnight, so the mud/dirt wasn't frozen under the new snow. Opted to avoid the (typically) muddier trails. I really didn't have to deal with mud, just soft conditions.

Green

From Chautauqua, Mesa, Bear Canyon, Green-Bear, West Ridge, Green; down Greenman, Saddle Rock, Amphitheater, Baseline.

Started at 6:16 am. Wanted something a little longer today. Got a bit more than I wanted as there was a fair bit of fresh snow, especially in upper Bear Canyon, where it seemed like it was maybe five inches deep at times. Slow going for me.

Took four days off due to left knee and left/right (mostly right) achilles bothering me. The knee was my main concern. I don't have a clue what happened to it. It just started hurting after standing up from my desk at work Friday afternoon. Pretty sure the achilles was from the sharp increase in vert lately. This morning, the knee felt great for the most part. Didn't really notice it. The right achilles nagged on the Mesa Trail and into Bear Canyon. Didn't notice it as much after lower Bear. The deeper snow in Bear may have "iced" it a bit, then I was mostly walking upper Bear and Green-Bear.

Antero

Climbed with Jeff V and Dave & Emily H. Had good track and didn't need snowshoes until just below tree line. Dave and Emily had started about an hour before us, so they ended up doing some trailbreaking at tree line and up the gully (also jmbrooks8/John from LOJ, who had pulled a sled up that morning). Up the gully a ways and exited right onto a ridge. Stashed the snowshoes at the long switchback that cuts back to the south and continued up snowy talus to the final ridge and the summit.

Started at 8:15 am, summitted at 12:34 pm, started down at around 12:55 pm, and got back to the cars at 3:37 pm. So, 7:22 for the roundtrip.

Green

From Gregory TH, Amph, Saddle Rock, Greenman, Green; down the same.

Started at 6:25 am. Felt like just going easy today. Walked everything up to Saddle Rock/Greenman, then jogged easy to the spring, then walked until the final switchbacks, where I upped the pace to try (unsuccessfully) to get under 50. Fog lying over Boulder was gorgeous, especially the top of the Third jutting out of the fog. Jogged down pretty easy. Ran into Chris Gerber and (I think) Tom Masterson as they were coming down and I was going up.

Missed out on yesterday as I was at work until midnight on Wednesday.

Green

From Gregory TH, Gregory, Ranger, West Ridge, Green; down Greenman, Saddle Rock, Amphitheater.

Started at 6:23 am. Decided to check out Gregory/Ranger since I hadn't been up that way in a while. Started without Microspikes, although they would've been useful from the start...for a minute or so. Put them on just before the bridge that you drop down to. Still some dry sections above there. Fair bit of ice also. Didn't really care for the conditions of Gregory. Was also thinking this route would give me more of a run rather than just a hike. Not on this day. Tough for me to run this route in ideal situations. With dead legs, it wasn't happening. Ran a few sections here and there, but hiked most of the route today. Sat on top with the sun warming my back for a bit. Awesome! Started down and the legs weren't liking that either. Or so I thought. I guess I was going faster/harder than I thought I was given my descent time, but it didn't feel particularly fast. Just didn't feel smooth. Felt like I was just pounding my quads rather than running smoothly.

Still feeling the left and right achilles a bit. Dull ache mostly. Haven't been icing.

Green (PR)

From Gregory TH, Amph, Saddle Rock, Greenman, Green; down the same.

Started at 6:33 am. Kraig K started up Gregory just before I started up Amphitheater. Trail is pretty much in perfect shape with packed snow the entire way. Started out thinking I would take it pretty easy because of the achilles, but part way up Amphitheater, I decided to go. Hiked the steep stuff hard. On the less steep stuff, I would almost try to sprint rather than run slowly. Quite surprised to top out ahead of Kraig, even though he went the longer route. Jogged down with Kraig.

PR for this route. Psyched! Excellent birthday present. When I mentioned to Kraig that it was my 39th birthday, he mentioned 39:00 as a goal for Green. That's a long ways off, but might be fun trying.

Still feeling the achilles a bit, so probably not the best idea to push it today. But I had to on my birthday. Glad I did.

PR by 24 seconds. Previous PR was 41:32 on 6/15/09.

South Boulder Creek trail

From Marshall Rd, South Boulder Creek trail to South Boulder Rd, east to the tunnel under South Boulder; returned the same.

Started at 6:34 am. Dusting of fresh snow. A few sections still had packed snow. Ran comfortably at a consistent pace on the way out. Bit of a fartlek on the return, but nothing structured. Just picked it up a few times for maybe 30 seconds, then recovered, etc.

Yesterday was off mostly due to Lori being sick. But my right achilles is now painful, so it was good to give it some rest (and ice). Definitely overdid it with all the climbing, I guess. Didn't really hurt on the run this morning, but it bugged me a bit.
